Touch is the first of our senses to develop in the utero, is directly connected to our nervous system and is the most effective mechanism for communication. The skin, our most important sense organ, contains a wealth of information about our state of being, our movements, touch, boundaries and personal needs. Touch can be deeply satisfying and deeply distressing, and we will look at the pleasure and pain behind the subject. As dancers, most of us have a natural relationship with touch, which is a natural part of the relationship between body and movement. Many people in the western world have lost contact with their sense of touch. Therefore touch is also becoming a political and socio-economic issue. Topics this week will be: - Touch as a sense organ - Functions of the skin - Qualities of touch - Pain and healthy boundaries - Politics of touch We will explore solo dance, creative writing and Authentic Movement, work in duets with bodywork, applied anatomy and Integrative Contact Improvisation, and do group work with scores and content-based sharings. For all with basic experience in Contact Improvisation.
