BadAss Contact: Throwing Ourselves Around & Knowing What We’re Doing Eszter Gal & Sabine Parzer This workshop will be held in English. Holistic Dance with focus on Contact Improvisation, Authentic Movement, Somatics, Applied Anatomy and composition Intermediate/ advanced We propose in this workshop that the technical and compositional qualities of contact improvisation can coexist. Contact Improvisation is a dance form that came out of the investigative qualities around performing post-modern improvisations. The founders were engaged in the research of raw physicality, the abandonment into space, letting go of control and activating spherical awareness. And yet, they were mostly busy with throwing themselves around, investigating being moved by touch while falling and performing their practice. Now after 53 years embodying the underlying principles of CI we have the possibility to pay attention to the additional compositional layers and play with the principles of space, time and different movement qualities that are important in creating compositional performances. We are both choreographers, long time improvisers, performers and teachers, trained in the art of combining both the physical, athletic skills of contact improvisation and the developing compositional arcs that quality performances require. We will work on: · Establishing ground rules and principles of CI · Engaging in self-referencing improvisations · Listening and leading through kinesthetic empathy · Training our landing gears and reflexes · Three dimensionality for traveling and supporting · Lifting and being lifted on different levels · Creating detailed orientation · Paying attention to larger arc · Recognizing and extending our limits (when appropriate) · awareness of time, space, body and force · Compositional elements such as gesture, repetition, theme and variation Over these days we will continuously perform for each other and witness from a place of curiosity and exploration.
