I Speak Dance - Poetics, movement and expression

Workshop with Sabin Parzer What happens when the body speaks before we have words? And what happens when words begin to move? In this intensive we explore the intimate relationship between body, movement, voice and language. We begin with the body — sensing, moving, touching, breathing and listening — and allow language to emerge from embodied experience. Sometimes a movement becomes a word, sometimes a word becomes a movement. Sometimes there is silence, and sometimes the space between the two becomes the most interesting place to dance. We approach language not only as a means of communication, but as material for improvisation, composition and artistic expression. Words, sounds, texts, poetry and writing can become impulses for movement, while movement can generate images, stories, questions and unexpected forms of language. We become curious about the messages we communicate consciously and unconsciously — through gesture, posture, tone, proximity, touch, gaze and words — and practice ways of communicating that are clear, embodied and non-judgmental. We work with: • language as a source of movement and movement as a source of language • writing, reading, poetry and scientific texts as inspiration for improvisation • voice, sound, rhythm and spoken language as embodied material • compositional practices using body, space, time and force • conscious and unconscious communication through body and language • articulation, clarity and the creative space between speaking and listening • non-judgmental language, witnessing and being witnessed • choice, boundaries, consent and agency within creative interaction • the relationship between sensation, imagination, meaning and expression • poetics, humour, mystery, magic and the unexpected moment We practice solo, duet, trio and group forms. This workshop is open to everyone with basic experiences in movement, dance and/or bodywork. This module is part of the Advanced Teachers Training (ATT) - Module Communication. This workshop will be held in both German/English. Price: € 680,- / TT's € 590,- / ATT-Module € 680,- TT price: applies to anyone who is currently participating in a Holistic Dance Teachers Training or has successfully completed one in the past. ATT price: applies to anyone who registers for the workshop as part of the Advanced Teachers Training. There are 2 discounted workstudy places per workshop.
