Holistic Dance Pedagogy: teachers with at least 3 years of teaching experience only - minimum 8 days Intensive What is the difference between a good dancer, who teaches skills to students and a real teacher? Pedagogy. The art of teaching is a craft that few teachers really embody and it makes a huge difference. Most dancers stumble into teaching, because they need to make a living. They pass on what they have been taught by their teachers, what feels good on their bodies, the techniques, lifts, exercises that work for them. But there is more to teaching dance than just demonstrating and being a stunning example yourself. Especially in the field of Contact Improvisation and Somatics the issues of touch, consent, safety and trauma activation, need a skill set to be able to create and hold a safe container. In this Pedagogy Intensive training we focus on how do improvisational dancers learn best, how do students move into a learning zone, rather than a stress zone, how do we empower our students to really strive, rather than just copy us and how can we lead with clarity, without being neither authoritative nor narcistic (you know what I mean…). In this training you will learn about • Setting up a safe environment for learning • Establishing yourself as a figure of expertise • Developing an organic authority • Creating rapport with your students • Shaping the flow of a class/ workshop • Preparing and letting go of content (improvising as a teacher) • Writing descriptions and setting the tone for content • Setting up poles of activity/ rest within your class/ workshop • Warmups, themes, subthemes, cooldowns • Getting feedback and giving feedback • Dealing with wonderful and difficult participants • Knowing and accepting your limits as a teacher • Working with consent, directly and indirectly • Keeping your energy during class/ workshop • Creating a composition as a way of teaching class • Dealing with your specific teaching experiences and questions I will share my approach of teaching Holistic Dance – a blend of CI, AM and somatics that works best for me to create an environment of releasing, activating and connecting. We will work in solo explorations, duets, groups and study labs with these methods and in addition employ creative writing, non-violent communication, systemical coaching and elements of the polyvagal theory. This seminar will be held in English. Organisation and registration: Rhizome Springs www.rhizomesprings.com (c) Cristi Serban
